So like many of folks out there, we had to get kat some new furniture, she found some she liked and so we went to IKEA. First off, this place is an insane asylum of people wandering around, most if not the majority entered the store 2 or 3 days ago and were simply lost in the building and unable to get out, if not for the food court, I'm sure there would be bands of people huddled around a particle board furniture fueled fire, slown cooking some wayward straggler that we ventured too close the the bedroom gallery. After and hour of trying to find the three items and another hour of waiting in line, we escaped the insanity. Little did I know that the hell had just begun. I spend the rest of the day assembling a night table and moved on to the 6 dresser drawer to discover the kit was missing some parts. At this point, I stopped, escaped to the movie and called it a day. The next morning i was ready to drive back the hour plus to the store of evil and try and get the parts. Since I was busy moving the old furniture out and building the next items, the mother-in-law decided to drive there, she likes chewing on people, and I sense this was an intense Xmas time and she had some pent up rage to unleash on some store nitwit. She returned a couple hours later with some parts, only to discover one of them was wrong. At this point I was tired of the whole mess and drive out to the home depot and got a coupe generic parts.

Word of advice, IKEA is Swedish for "fuck the consumer"

I'm freaking tired. Glad to be at the lake house for a day to chill.

Well it's been a crazy year to say the least. My awesome wife scored me an iPad 2 for Christmas this year, was totally not expecting it. I'm writing this on it. So much easier than lugging around a laptop for web and such. Went to Kayla's 18th birthday party last night, it was fun and she looked overwhelmed by it all, hope she liked the gifts. Sitting up here in Dallas till tomorrow morning when we drive back to home and have to work on pulling all the Christmas decorations down. This was one of the most socially intense Christmas's we have had, glad it's over.

Onward with a new year and the coming 2012 Apocolypse.

A Message From The Great Beyond

You know most people have dreams, some people read into dreams, most people dream lame boring stuff like going to school with no pants, or other lame stuff that Freud would say all relate to you mother or lack of having a girl friend.

My dreams are generally a roller coaster into Hell, blood, aliens, shit so messed up you would think acid trips are for the UN-inspired. The dreams I have that are the most normal, that you might call lucid, like a dream where you start your day and its a normal day like any other, that's what makes me wake up screaming and sweating.

Last night I had the closest thing to a prophetic, religious, existential dream ever. I was at the base of this mountain, an impossibly huge mountain that stretched into space and beyond. At the base of that mountain I came across Sam Elliot, all decked in his western wear, and told me that I was going to have to prepare, that my journey beyond was about to start. Then he vanished into the fog.

I started to walk up the trail and then woke up. All morning as I drove to work I was half expecting an 18 wheeler to come barreling through a red light and take me out.

The main thing was that it was so real, the fog, the cold, the wind, the mist, the feel of the trail underfoot. I couldn't tell that it was not real. Most dreams fade as the old noggin starts working in the morning, but this one is still vivid.

Deer Hell on Earth

Last weekend, I went up to the deer lease with the father-in-law to do the ritual clean up of the deer lease property and fill the feeders. It was hotter than two hells up there. The cabin was scenic as ever, filled to the brim with rats/mice, whatever you want to call the furry bastards. At one point I was pondering the really good possibility of getting haunta virus or the plague. We burned up two cans of expandy foam to seal up the walls and keep them out. Had to board up a whole in the wall where a cupacabra had eaten it's way into the cabin.

We got the tripod tower built and raised. We got sunburned to the point of fried bacon. Got the feeders filled up with corn and pea mix to give the deer some good chow to fatten them up, they need it, its so dry up there that we were surprised the place had not burned up.

Tragedy struck as a stray trailer wheel well jumped up and ripped the leg off of one of the blinds, we hope that gravity and the tension wire will keep it upright till September.

Looking forward to September, the dove were flying and need to get their strength up to fly in front of us in September so they can land in some bacon wraps.

Movie Review - Super 8

Friday night I went out early, saw my friend Z's new house about an hour away, caught some dinner and then went and saw Super 8 at the Cinemark theater in XD. I was excited to see this film, I stayed away from reading too much so it wouldn't run the film for me. The premise of the film is that a military train crashes, while some kids are filming a home made zombie flick. Something escapes from the train, people start disappearing, electronics and car parts start to vanish also, the military move in and try and capture a guest they have had for many years. The story really takes in the dynamics of the main characters, the interplay of there personal tragedies and how they are rising up to survive against the challenge before them. This was a good film. I really enjoyed it, there was some minor things I would have changed, but not much at all. This is one of the must sees for the summer.

Movie Review - Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides

Took the kiddos to see the latest Pirates movie, I had seen some grumbling on the interwebs on this movie, so I took them to see the early show on the weekend. Like feeding a pack of wolves, the kids ate up $40 in tickets and snacks like it was nothing. The theater it was in was too small, and that was a bit of a pain in the ass. We survived and we enjoyed it. I set my mind to cabbage mode and didn't want to think about the plot, characters and so forth from a critical standpoint. I was surprised that it was entertaining and the characters did well, the loss of the main damsel and lead male role was a downer that you obviously see with the film, but it turned out all right. In retrospect I wouldn't fight the crowds on a Friday night for this, but I enjoyed the previous three films and it was a nice addition. Sure they leave it open for another sequel, but I didn't feel bad or wonder what happened. Go see it on a hot as hell day to escape the sun.

Next up... Super 8 this Friday.

Movie Review - X-Men: First Class

I went out the other night and saw X-Men: First Class, I left the kiddos at home because I wasn't sure about the movie with it's PG-13 rating. Glad I did, it was a more mature film, and I thought perhaps the best one to date. Other parental units, I shall call douche bags, did take kids to a film that had several adult themes in it that made it a strong movie, not shocked by this, just tired to see little kids in R rated splatter fests and sexually strong movies they have no business in because the douche bag parents can't spring for a baby sitter. The cost of movies is a pain in the ass, but I didn't feel robbed after this. This story sets the stage of the rise of the mutants and the development of how the main characters came into being and learning the ropes so to speak. I enjoyed this film, the detail on the sets, and look and feel were perfect for the time period. Go see this.

Movie Review - Preist

Ok, this movie is based on a graphic novel in which vampires were a separate species that man has fought for ages. The wars between man and vampires has raged on to the point most of the planet is a wasteland and people live for the most part in massive walled cities. There the church rules all and controls the populace. Priests are the ultimate warrior class that has arisin to battle the vampire menace. Finally they believe that they have killed all the vampires until events take place that could undermine the church's authority. A lone priest must head out and save his family and stop the vampire threat. I would have to give this film an 'OK' it was enjoyable. I just though they could have spent more time on the bad guy character and the journey overall.

They did a good job of making Thor look great with the costumes and sets. The storyline was tight and I was not disappointed with spending my money to see this.

Surgery Fun

Been offline with posts and crap, for the last 4 months, I was living with massive stomach pains, mainly on my left side. So I went to the doctors to see what was up. They sent me off for an x-ray and on it I saw a small boulder. Saw a specialist and a cat scan that confirmed I had a stone about the size of bic lighter. Last Thursday I went in and had surgery to remove it. While I was recovering from surgery, there was unexpected horrors that awaited me and pain. I had a magic button that I could push every 10 minutes that took me away to a warm fuzzy dream place, it was a happy place. Then they came and took away the magic box and sent me home with a damn garden hose in my back and some chalky pain pills. It has sucked on many levels. Light at the end of the tunnel though, I get the tube removed from my back tomorrow morning, and hopefully will be back to normal with some minor pain to deal with. Looking forward to getting to sleep in my bed, cause having to sleep in a chair sitting up in the den this week has not been fun at all to deal with. Not sleeping well and there is not anything worth a damn to watch on tv that late at night. Ready to be back on the normal path and going to work, on the plus side, they discovered I have a thyroid problem that was causing some of my fatigue problems and inability to shed weight. I would post pictures of the tube fun, but half my back is a taped up mess.

Well, it's confirmed, I have carefully nurtured and cared for a blossoming 2.5 cm plus kidney stone. The pain I have been enduring for the last four months has been this critter slowly crushing my kidney. On the plus side, I got me some really good painkillers, on the down side, I am going to have surgery, probably next week. They will cut open a point on my back and blow up and extract the stone fragments, then I will have a tube hanging out my back a couple days for blood drainage. Yippie for me! If this sounds bad, you should have heard what option A was. It would have made the Spanish inquisition proud.

Glad to know what this evil pain is, ready for it to be over. And to think it was all triggered by a bunch of pistachios :)
Have to go line up my cab to the hospital. Sadly for the wife, I'm not dying yet. So she will have to wait awhile longer for the insurance payout.

Wish I could carjack one of those moped carts so I don't have to walk anymore. I have probably done about 15 miles of walking over the last couple days. Been awhile

Been awhile since I've posted up here, been busy/lazy I guess. Right now I'm freezing my ass off in my deer blind hoping something comes out to supply alot of meat. Been working, hunting, playing Warcraft. Working from home in my new garage office has been really nice, no rush hour traffic. Have not been out to many movies so far since Colorado, but Skyline was a major disappointment. Looking forward to seeing Tron next week. Cat is having some major attitude problems, being a parent can really suck at times. Bud is doing well, played football like a champ and I'm very proud of him. Worry about him down the road, cause he just rambles through life, as long as he has a meal, he really don't care what's going on around him. Cat has taken up knitting of all things, go figure. I can't wait till Christmas, looking forward to seeing their faces, have to thank the woman for the hard work shes doing. No Christmas presents for us this year, as we like many Americans struggle to paddle above the water. Can't wait till Obama is out, that dumbass has done nothing but hamper this countries recovery, along with pelosi and Reid, they have done nothing but ensure we will all be in tax debt for the next 300 years. On the bright side, the elections were great and now we have some balance in congress to fight all the liberal insanity. On a related note, did you know that amazingly, close to 50% of people whose unemployment runs out, suddenly find jobs, makes you think they could have worked sooner.

Prairie Dogs

Well, my kids were wanting to see a picture of a prairie dog since I got up to Denver. Two things were working against me, one, they all ways seem to live in fields by the sides of major roads with no where to stop, and two, as soon as they see you the whole area lights with with citter chatter, and they all run down their holes. Got lucky and found a place to take a picture, and captured a shot of them right before he ran down his hole. He was busy stealing all the mulch chips out of the playground next to his house. I feel like a panhandler up here, the hotel I am living in while being nice enough, lacks what I would call, acceptable internet. It's slower than molasses in winter, and is down more than a whore at a sailor bar. So I drift around, trying to get me some internets here and there. Hooters offers free internets... but their slow and have no plugs for laptops. CB Potts has some internets but the crowd up there is lame and very loud to sit around, plus they have like only two tables with a plug nearby and that is inevitably occupied by a group of folks that obviously life is too great for them cause they occupy a booth for hours.

For whatever reason alot of stuff shuts down early up here, so most if not all coffee shops are out of the question. So here I sit at something called a Village Inn, the food is good the connection is slow, but it's all I got. Wish I could go get a 3g data card for the laptop, but the wireless vultures want $$$$ for that. Oh well, about 4 weeks left till I'm back at my high speed. Damn those work Nazi's, don't they realize if they allowed general surfing and games on their networks, that people would stay at work longer?

Saw the news clip where he equates the Muslim center that is trying to be build next to Ground Zero as a freedom of speech and religion. Wrong, this is not one of those issues, it's one of decency and common sense, something this presidency is woefully lacking. The fact is that they have the right to build their place anywhere else, and they should. Better yet lets all roll down to Mecca, and right in the middle of their most holy of holy's lets build a massive neon cross right next to it about 50 stories tall, of course all in the name of peace and cultural understanding.

Movie Review - The Expendables

Fresh From The Rockies...

Got up and went on a drive today, looking for some neat things to do at the end of my stay in Denver, it's amazing how things go from city to wilderness so quickly. Very pretty county around in the mountains. I could live up there with no problems, wonder if they have high speed. Stopped along a mountain stream, and well, that Coors your sipping on just got a bit of a spritz in it. Stopped by Mile High Comics, after years of seeing them in the comic books, I stopped by a location to be very disappointing, its was rather run down and could use a good cleaning and better display of the products. Perhaps if I find myself further south into Denver proper at some point I'll hit the other locations. Suffering serious internet and tv withdraw. I miss the high speed and my PVR. Talked to the Bud this morning, he misses me, but not unless I bring him a surprise when I get home in five more weeks. Being on the lookout for a deal, I spied a sign on the road for garage sale, wow, who knows what hidden gems could be out in the boonies of the mountains. So I started down the dirt road till the dirt road changed to grass, at that point I decided to turn back vs. venturing further into the barrens where I might get the vehicle stuck. Further down the mountains on the way back to the hotel, saw the particularly nasty spill of a guy on a mountain bike, apparently those of us with common sense not to go mountain biking tend to do ok, this guy was being looked after by his friends into the back of a truck, he was screaming like a girl, as I drove closer I could see why, his bike was a mangled pile of metal and one of his shin bones was poking out of his leg pretty good, usually your bones like to stay on the inside.

Denver Adventure

Well folks, I am living the American Dream... (working to pay for all those Obama voters who can't seem to get a job, or have no inclination to obtain one) having to take a new job, lucky for me I found one in this crappy economy. I could just say my kung foo is that strong, but that would be insensitive to others. So in order to keep the house and marriage together I find myself working in Denver for the next 6 weeks and living in a long term motel. First off the TV sucks... going to have to pirate some SCIFI channel or something cause the limited room channels are a pain. I got my big ass folder/binder and I am saving every little receipt so we can get some of my money back to me next tax season. I am staying in a nice part of Denver on the north side on the way to Boulder. I drove up to Boulder today while waiting for my room to be available. I am fried after 2 days of driving, the drive from Texas to Denver is not thrilling to say the least, not exactly looking forward to that drive back in 6 weeks.

Movie Review - Inception

Got out of the house and caught Inception, first off I don't like Decaprio. But Nolan is a kick ass director. Holy Shit... this film rocked, and to top that off it was a royal mind screw in the process. During the film those with a substantially low IQ got confused and upset and some left cause it basically hurt to think. This is one of the must see films of the summer for sure, well worth the price.

Windows 7 Problem

Well I encountered my only Windows 7 problem ever. I booted up my laptop last night and got the infamous NTLDR missing... Oh crap... right before I am going to Colorado for a couple months, my laptop has to go and freak out. After using the recover tool and crossing my fingers a couple times... nothing, the damn thing didn't want to work. Finally I was able to the restore to the last update point and get it up and running, then for the next three hours I backed up all my junk to my external drive. Then after a reboot the damn thing started working again, for no real reason. A real pain in the ass. At least it's working again.

Toy arrived today, a new Dell XPS 9100, 8 Core i7, 12 GB RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. Will be re-installing the OS with Windows 2008 R2, running Hyper-V so I can build me a small server farm on 1 box. Soon I will have a Microsoft CRM running and SAP environment. Going to Denny's tonight to study and read SAP books.

Must say that I have tried to stick to the Science channels and so forth, but whenever the news is on, I just get pissed off. I can't believe we have so many lying idiots in Washington selling all of us down the river. Grrrr....

On a personal cool factor, my folks hooked me up with some SAP books, a new computer to build my own VM farm to install SAP into, and in a weird can't talk about double wink type of thing, I have some great access to SAP training. This will be a year that I am going to try and do a little of everything, going to look at other industry certs and training also. Got me some toys showing up from ThinkGeek also. It should be at the house today.

So, I am in the middle of a career move, massive layoffs hit work again last week, was lucky I guess for the last couple years, but Obama isn't quite done destroying the US economy. Been grinding up the job sites and contacts, it gets tiresome for sure. One word of warning I feel compelled to pass on is that Matrix, and Robert Half firms are a complete and total waste of time. I don't see how they maintain their positions when they can't even find their own ass with both hands. These two firms also take joy of having their idiots fill the main job boards with non existent jobs and the crap they put up there muddies up the pool so to speak when you are trying to find a real job post. I have taken a vow, that wherever I may go, I will bar/kick/persuade not to let those slime balls into the door. ARRRRGGGGGG....

Movie Review - The A Team

Hooked up with Z, and caught this film, and was hoping that my TV show was not about to be raped by another Hollywood type who thinks he can write a script. I was surprised that this was a really good film and I enjoyed it a lot. Well worth your monies should you go see this, and I recommend this is a great film to watch and escape the heat.

Well, President Obama opened his mouth tonight, and spewed enough fertile rich organic matter to allow the midwest to fertilize and feed the entire world two times over. Not dismissing BP's issues, but for him to act all tough and make BP pay, is asinine. Why? He claims he is in charge of this disaster, yet, he has never once been in touch with BP. The british and dutch offered specialized oil recovery vessels to help on day three, and he turned them away. Other than some visits to the beach here and there, he has not done a single thing to relive, assist, or solve any of the mess, you sir are an epic fail of proportions so large that the biggest environmental disaster has been the steady spew from your mouth and not the BP spill. To make matters worse you have pretty much set in motion the death of the gulf coast with your moratorium on the gulf. For someone who spews about how your creating jobs, you have a funny way of doing it when your actions result in job losses in the tens of thousands.

Sad Times Indeed

I don't watch the news much anymore, other than to see the weather and traffic information. It's just dam depressing. Never before has the U.S. had a president who has taken so much action with his appointees and policies to look at crippling the First Amendment, working with foreign nations via the U.N. to circumvent the Second Amendment, bowing to foreign nationals and apologizing to pretty much anyone. Worst of all is the fact that we have a U.S. President that is fostering the actions that is fracturing the states, I could live to see the secession of states from the Union. The really sad part of all this is the sheer amount of apathy and lies that you see. You see senators blatantly lying about their experience. You see senators and policy people who never read the bill's they are signing, or the bills they are protesting. The hardest pill to swallow is the massive lies about the runaway spending the Obama administration has been doing. Oh yea, your taxes are going way up.

Movie Review - Iron Man 2

OK, It's Iron Man 2, so we got action and tech and it's Iron Man. I won't talk much about the plot, but, it was worth seeing and enjoying. I would have done the story a bit different, we will have to wait and see what the next Marvel installment in Thor will bring.

Well, It has been a busy couple weeks, a lot going on. Most nights the last couple of weeks I would come home and have to work on stuff till I was basically wiped out, that and being on call then back to back weekend work stuff was a little crazy. Looking forward to Friday, going up to the deer lease to do spring cleaning. Got the lumber good to go, need to get a 5 gallon can for the generator. At least the TV schedule is getting good, a lot of shows have started back up and new episodes.

Movie Review - Hot Tub Time Machine

Ok, caught up with the present so to speak. I got out after a hard day of spraying weed killer, spraying down the patio, clearing out lumber to take to the deer lease, and watching the wife work like a slave on weeding and cleaning the front flower beds, even the dogs got tired watching her and took a nap. So after dinner, I escaped to the movie theater and saw Hot Tub Time Machine. Damn, this was a good movie, funny and full of awesome music tracks. the premise is that 4 semi-good friends escape to their favorite spot at a ski resort, get massively drunk in a hot tub with special features. They wake up after a massive bender to find themselves back in the 80's on a day that shaped the rest of their lives. Go see this movie, I enjoyed it. I plan on snagging the soundtrack as soon as I can.

Movie Review - Repo Men

Ok, another movie review, I escaped from the house and saw Repo Men, Basically in the not too distant future, where Obama care has destroyed the medical systems. The way to survive is through paying out to corporations for you new artificial parts. Being the kind and friendly people corporations can be, they let people who choose not to pay for services, get away with not paying. Just kidding, they send repo men out to harvest your organ or organs that you are default on, whether you are using it to live or not. The main character finds himself on the receiving end of a new artificial heart. He can't bring himself to repo again, and soon falls behind on his payments. He finds himself on the run from his former friends and co-workers. This film was OK.. I'll leave it at that, that as much as I was hoping for a good film, I ended up watching something better off left to the rental store. A bit harsh, but there it is.

Movie Review - Clash of the Titans

Catch up time, went out and took Cat to see Clash of the Titans. I remember seeing this film at the drive in theater way back when, they used cutting edge stop motion photography back then before all the fancy computer generated effects. Being a remake, I am always dubious that they are going to kill some fond memories. Seeing as Hollywood must be staffed with some rather daft people, and can't seem to generate a good original thing these days, I am always leery. Surprisingly this movie was decently done, there was some nods here and there to the original movie that were fun to see. I drank the kool-aid and went and saw the 3D version. Note, this film was not shot in 3D, but it was done with post production computer effects. Still, this film was rather good, though in hindsight I would not have gone to see the 3D version.

Perhaps one of the most profound things I have observed is that humanity as a whole is insane. Something stated as a logical yes/no, on/off, true/false. Never is accepted by people. Humanity will refute everything in pursuit of the millions of shades of grey, and then some. A statement such as the sky is blue, will fill volumes of responses from a million different angles. Humanity even behaves this way in the face of horrific events or performing these events. Some times I think that bipolars and sociopaths are the only sane folks because they have direction, and the rest of humanity will drag them down because of their apparent immunity from the chaos that is defined as normal.

Well. People wondering why the poor airlines are hurting finacially, those same airlines that continue to spend money on stadiums and golf tournaments, perhap you should focus more on not fucking your customers up the ass. First off, having to pay a $25 dollar bag check on top of the overpriced flights. Now to add insult to injury, the same bag, with a couple more items in it is somehow miraculously overweight and how does a $75 bag check fee sound? Next flight I have controll over will be flown on Southwest, where for some crazy reason, they are profitable, never taken a government handout, don't charge you ever for bags and such. Fuck you Continental.

By the way, it's nice to see the TSA really doing their job, someone tripped the security door to the Tarmac, no less that 20 minutes of alarm bell shrill later did they bother to send someone to shut the door and turn off the alarm. Nevermind actully looking to find who breached security. It always gives you a feeling of confidence when the foreign looking TSA asshole give you dirty looks while they stare at your drivers license like they will find the meaning of life in it if they scowel into it long enough.

Last Day of Fun

Took the wife down to Rodeo drive today, we got robbed yet again with parking fees. We walked up and down looking at all the fancy shops full of $200 tshirts, $4500 watches, and items without tags that basically say "if you have to ask, peon, go back to Wallmart". We got some really good pizza slices at Little Mulberry Pizza, then headed back to the hotel. Billy came back by the hotel with his girlfriend and took us on a private tour of the area, showing us some really cool homes and what not, he took us up a winding road/backway, that put us right below the Hollywood sign. After that we met the wifes freind for dinner then came back to the hotel. Starting to pack up, wish I had more time here, there is so much to see.

Well, we met Billy, Wendy, and Billy's girlfreind for dinner at a Mexican resturant, got some really tasty fish tacos. After dinner we went back to the hotel we are staying at and went over the adoption papers and pictures and information. Was wild how I decifered most of the detail information correctly. Learned more about the family, the past they had, and even some fun facts like how my biological mother was freinds with Burt Reynolds back in the day. Was a lot of fun, was mentally fried by the end of the night, what a trip.

Woke up, grabbed some dougnuts and coke and headed to Paramount Studios. We took the private tour and had a small golf cart tour of the lots. Was really neat, I could so easily work there. Should have just ran with my crazy thoughs and headed out here after high school many years ago. We got to walk on some sets like the one for NBC's Community College. We next drove down to Hollywood boulevard and walked the sidewalks were all the stars names are. Stopped and took some pictures of the hand and foot prints of the stars. Got some nachos at the Pig n Whistle. Hit some of the shops, most have junk, never saw anything unique that I couldn't live without. Back at the hotel taking it easy, have dinner in 3 hours with Billy.

Well we woke up and drove down to Venice beach, wow, to say humanity is doomed look no further than here. Don't get me wrong it's a very fun place to see, lots of interesting sights. Never before had I seen a professional tounge whistler, and with his luck he may not live to see his world tour album cut. Not everyone was impressed with his melodic renditions of the classics, evident by the roid rage monster in the nearby apartment who shouted from his window to cease his performance or his ass would be beaten. Firm in his tounge whistling prowes, he challenged the muscle freak in a verbal altercation. Well being the so in controll of his temper muscle guy, he came down and gave a stunning expose on multi colorful metaphors, and chased the manic tounge whistler away from his concert vista. Lots of neat shops and plenty of doctors with signs ready to diagnose me with quad polar disorder so they could prescibe me leafy herbal medicines to cure me. If only not the whole responsibilites and act like an adult thing. Oh well if this Obama nightmare goes through then I guess that will be all I can afford.

We drove up to the Santa Monica peir and walked around, we stared to drive up the PCH but fog rolled in and pretty much defeated the whole point of driving up the coast.

On the way back to the hotel, I got a pic of the Nakatomi building from Die Hard, sadly this illeagel alien car parking bitch was waving his arms up and down getting his panties in a wad. Well. Fuck You sir, this is America. and contrary to what people say, it's perfectly legal to take pictures, so suck it Jaun.

Tonight we dined in awsome! We went to eat at Beso tonight and boy that was some great chow. The woman got a filet steak dish and I had a bite, it was tender and awsome with a hint of spicy BBQ taste. I had a seafood mix dish, the fish was like butter, the shrimp was tasty, and the chicken with clams was a taste wave of fantastic sitting on a bed of sausage and rice love. Another iter of note was the bread, it was a oven flat bread with spices, and a dipping sauce of red peppers, olive oil and pumpkinseed, it made for a great smooth non burning taste. Well worth the trip, a must eat for folks in LA.

The premise of the film is that a small town starts to become unglued, and the regular folks are trying to survive and live, all the while the military has a plan of its own. This is a good scary thriller film, perhaps gives the tingly's a little more because I can totally see events in this film happening in real life. If you like horror/thrillers, go out and see this film.

Well, today there was a bit of excitement in the news today as a distraught IT guy, burned his house up, posted a farewell to the web, and then flew his plane into the Austin local IRS offices, killing himself, and injuring a few and one missing at the latest news report. I'm not condoning his actions, he obviously was at the end of his rope from the read of his farewell letter. But sadly, if he had just quietly killed himself at home, then his message would have never been heard. His demise would have been swept into the statistics bin and forgotten. There will be folks wanting to say there is always another way to be heard, but sadly, humans as a whole don't really sit up for the positive things, they tune in like sheep to the horrible bits of someone else's life going down the tubes.

Now to as to the points he was making about the legality of the IRS and how they do things, I'd really like someone to take a hard look at the laws and regulations. I doubt there will be talents lawyers looking at his claims, it will all be washed away. I heard the radio talk guy speaking about how his actions to harm folks working at the IRS was wrong. Well for the sake of argument, just who or what is the IRS? The IRS is a government agency that people work at enforcing tax rules and laws and performing collections against people and companies. At what point can one say "That Guy" there is running it and making a decision. The guy tried to make a point in his letter that the IRS laws are so convoluted and complex that no one really understands them. So at what point did the IRS become a living entity? It wields massive power over lives. If no one really understands it who works there or can give you a straight answer, then what really is the IRS? a mutant hive mind collective? It's scary when you think hard about it, there is no checks and balances, it just exists. People just collectively know that you have to pay your taxes. They just accept it with a blind eye just like the sun rising and setting in the sky. If he has a valid point that the IRS law as it read exempted him from paying based on its rules, yet still took this man to the cleaners. Scary...

Now, to be critical of the guy who crashed the plane. If you were a dumb ass and didn't pay your taxes or bother to fill out your 1040ez, and the IRS fined you for being an idiot. Then I have some basic facts I have trouble with. Your house you blew up was in a heck of a nice neighborhood. You could have sold it and moved into an apartment. I'm guessing you had a decent car, perhaps a Toyota you could have downgraded to. The final straw is the fact you own a plane. You could have sold the plane and made an easy $100k plus easy. It's not like we all have planes sitting in the yard. Finally, if you CPA is an idiot and caused you problems, you should have a.) fired his ass, b.) gotten a tax attorney, and c.) hired a civil lawyer to sue the CPA who did your financial's for putting your ass in a jam.

Ending on a positive note, I really wish there would be a national flat tax program, this would negate the existence of the IRS overnight and create a economic boom overnight.

Last night we got our party on, I wrapped up work stuff, and we drove out to Lake Charles and went to a Mardi Gras party that's a pretty big thing out there. It was a fun night a lot of drinking, I retired a bottle of Gentleman Jack, dancing, fancy dresses, dancing, more drinking, and finally getting back to the motel and passing out. The drive back was uneventful, and tonight will be one of rest.

I'm glad the Saints won the Superbowl, not because of some of the stupid reasons that some of the announcers were making like "they deserve it because of Katrina". The Saints deserved to win because they played a helluva ball game, and took risks that paid off for them and played hard. The commercials during the game were a bit of a letdown, not that many were really memorable or funny, I can barely remember them now as I type this. The halftime show was quite lame, I enjoy The Who's music, but there comes a point when seeing them on stage and realizing that its a senior citizens jam. I mean what? is there not some younger fresh talent worth a damn out there? Daft Punk could of rocked the place. On the note of the halftime show, I would have much rather seen boob malfunctions during the show than Pete Townsend's flabby old beer gut flopping around.

One other thing that surprised me was that Abe Vigoda is still alive. Wow.. he was born in 1921... Go Abe!

Movie Review - Edge of Darkness

Went last night to see Edge of Darkness starring Mel Gibson. As an actor I like Mel Gibson, some of his directed films I don't really like, and some of his world views are a bit off. But, I don't want people to let his views influence what is a really good film, a must see film for the year. Mel Gibson plays an older Boston detective who's daughter comes home for a visit, only to be slain in front of him. As he tries to find out who wanted him dead, he begins to realize that there was a much bigger game afoot. I enjoyed this film, now the big challenge comes as the film season begins to dry out till summer.

Movie Review - Legion

I went to see the movie Legion. So, you may see a lot of mixed reviews out on the net over this film. So be warned. I went out and saw this film anyways despite the reviews on the net, cause I wanted to give it a fair shake. Sometimes movie reviews you read can be influenced by the over zealous paid reviewers who didn't get their pampering and free screenings and kickbacks from the producers. I will say this, the mainstream regular Joe may not find this film appealing. But, I went with an open mind and knowing that this was a film about god wanting to format the earth. In many ways I can agree with that. The main plot of the film centers on an the angel Michael, who disagrees with god's plan to format the earth at the hands of his army of angels, in order to save mankind, Michael must protect a soon to be born baby. So the other angels take over people and try and kill the baby and anyone who gets in their way. The mother of the baby and some wayward travelers are held up in a gas station in the middle of nowhere. There they will fight to survive. I enjoyed seeing this movie, even if some of the reviews were bad, this was an enjoyable film to see. If you dig films that don't rely on a chick flick format and seek some fun, this is a good film. Though I bet some holy roller types will be upset because this film does not portray angels in the Vatican approved format of happy happy good guys, the the strong arm of a god who's fed up with these hairless monkeys and their behavior.

This is a challenging course that offers plenty of privacy and lay of the land. Avid golfers have to careful of the tough lies that can be found, can be a major handicap for those used to driving. Tiger admits that it can be tough on your woods, so make sure to protect them unless you want a surprise. The golf clubhouse features a clinic and ample parking with trees and fire hydrants well back from the curbs. Make sure and leave the wife at home for this one, as this experience is meant to be a secret getaway. Tiger also suggests that all cell phones be secured in the lockers, as they can offer distractions on the course, and disrupt your play.

Movie Review - The Book of Eli

Went and saw The Book of Eli on Sunday morning, scored some awesome BBQ also. Back to the movie, basically, it takes place about 30 years after mankind unleashed some sort of nuclear war, and messed up the atmosphere letting the suns unfiltered rays cook everything that wasn't blasted to bits. The survivors live in a Mad Max type of world where cannibalism is a mainstay, water and resources are scarce to none. Along comes a lone traveler who causes quite a stir in a small survival town. I don't want to give too much up on this film because it is really good, and the twists and deep message of the film is better left to a surprise when you go see it. This is a must see film for this year. Go out and see this film.

Movie Review - Daybreakers

Went and met a friend of mine and saw Daybreakers yesterday morning. The premise of the film is that a virus has turned a large portion of the population into vampires, and well, the rest of the humans are food. But, a problem exists is that they have been eating quite well, and running out of humans to farm for blood. The vampires are in a desperate race to find a viable blood substitute, because without a constant meal supply, they revert to mindless zombie, bat things. Overall a bad time for humans. But a lone band of humans are struggling to stay alive and fight the good fight. This was an overall good film, a mix of near future scifi, with classic retro vampire dispatching methods. Granted my choice of movie flavors are not all mainstream oscar winners, but this was a good film. Looking forward to "The Book of Eli" this Friday, and Legion on the 22nd.

It's Freaking Cold

Sure, lets spend money like its going out of style, after all, it's not like it's your money (doh!! yes it is), lets fill bills with 1500 pages of pork money and special favors and all of 3 pages of actual legislation. Lets all go crazy and make stuff up and tax people on stuff that is intangible and not even understood. What is happening to America is frightening. Your tax money, for those that actually worked to provide for yourself, you have no idea the scope of how the current liberal madness is screwing us all. I mean your money went to finance a study on fly sex, it funded the use of a freaking laser beam to give the little fly's a Brazilian wax (if you don't know what that is go google or bing it) job so they could see if they could still mate. There is no real media doing their job of standing up and saying whoa, this is a bad idea. Even when C-Span points out a problem, they are quickly squashed.

Wake up folks, the U.S. only functions best when you have the creamy middle, like an Oreo cookie, The U.S. only will remain whole if you govern from the middle, and act fiscally responsible. Having this extreme of a socialist agenda on the left does no good.

But what do I know, crazy talk like, hmm.. how about congress actually pay debts off, to run a fiscally correct boat. Naww... it's too much fun to spend money that does not exist, and rack up the deficit into the trillions so out great grand-kids can still pay on this mess.

I hear folks talk about the spending was to create jobs, yep, fine job there, massive unemployment out there, not a single job created by the stimulus, the only green jobs created were promptly outsourced to other nations.

I hear the cry of a socialist health care system being rammed up our rears, like until just now, this very moment in time, that no one in America could get help from a doctor. That's a load of crap and they don't want you to hear that. Anyone can go to a hospital today and get help, sure you might have to pay, but that's life, you have to actually get off your ass and get a job, not sit around sucking on the handouts from the government and wait for another handout. Nothing in the Constitution of the Bill of Rights guarantees or provides you with food, clothing, cell phones, and a home. You have the freedom to go forth, create a business, or work for someone and make it in this world. And don't kid yourselves that some how your socialist health care will be free, cause it won't folks. The government will always take and spend your money. At the DMV, your taxes, your gas taxes, your property taxes, the government is always going to take your money and come back for more.

I would pose that most if not all of the people claiming to be a senator or even the president have even read the constitution or the bill of rights, cause if they did and they continue to behave the way they do, then shame on them for selling out your country.

New Years is Starting Off on a Bad Note

Well... It's a pain in the rear that the lamp for my TV is going out, so it should be no surprise that this morning I go out to the garage and open the garage door, and the garage door motor dies. So I go to Sears, and they say normally they honor the warranty on Craftsman products, but in this case, the gears that are messed up, they don't cover, if the motor was bad it would be a different story. So the wife used her gift cards that were supposed to go to getting materials and paints to fix her office up to purchase a new garage door opener. I stared at it in the store, looking at the display and thinking to myself how much a pain in the ass this is going to be. To my surprise I got the assembly all done, just have to mount it tomorrow, it was getting to dark to do it tonight.

The wife checked our horoscopes for the year, guess it should really be called horror scopes, cause hers says the year will be prosperous and good for her, and mine reads that I will basically be divorced. It sucks to be sucker punched at this time of the year with these extra costs, I still have to go to the deer lease this up coming weekend, even if it's not to hunt, we have some cleanup and bringing stuff back till next season to do. We also have to check out what has become of the feed pens, if the rancher fixed them or will I see mine all torn to hell and feeders all busted up all over the place.

On the small bright side of things, I'm really digging my iPhone, and the wife loves hers, but she won't admit it. Yep another cost, as we need to buy the Apple care to cover our phones in case of damage. Better watch out for black cats, walking under ladders, and breaking mirrors the next couple of weeks to be sure.

The Fog

Driving into work was rather spooky this morning.
Fog was so thick, and the lack of light made it feel like my car had slipped out of this universe and into subspace, where nothing but a dark grey vapor cloud existed. This experiance made more fun by the fact this was on a major freeway while doing 65.

Well, I woke up this morning and my loyal and trusty TV has turned on me, It has flashed up on the screen that the bulb is nearing the end of it's life. It's lasted over a good two years, but it still is a hassle and the damn thing costs about $200 to replace. What a pain in the ass. Oh well, got the old cell phones up for sale, and some older furniture pieces that the woman doesn't want anymore.

Will have to research this and see if I can score this cheaper.

On the other hand, its the end of 2009 tomorrow, and I am firing up the new grill. Need to go get a new propane tank when I get home from work and some juicy steaks to eat.

I am posting a couple pics of my two new Christmas joys. They are not expensive or super fancy, but I like them.

First is the grill, it's not the $2000 beast that I have seen around, but it's nice and I can retire what's left of the old grill that is falling apart into rust.

Next is the new car radio that the wife saved up and got me, it replaces the factory one that came with the car and now I can listen to my iTunes music on the road for trips and sitting in traffic on the way to work.

Movie Review - Armored

Yes, the last 5 days have been a movie fest of sorts, and the real world starts up again tomorrow morning. I went out and caught Armored, a film about a bunch of guys grinding away for pennies, working in armored cars, hauling away riches for others. So a group of them try to get away with one big score, the perfect scheme before the armored trucks get upgraded. Then the dynamics and random chance cause the perfect heist to go out of control. Not an Oscar nominated film, and it was not widely promoted, but it has a big name cast of actors and was very enjoyable to watch. Perfect for rainy day afternoons, or you just want to escape for a couple of hours.

Movie Review - Sherlock Holmes

Christmas Night, when all was quiet I went and caught this film. Based on the Classic characters of Sherlock Holmes and James Watson, this is a mystery tale and action thriller rolled into one. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law star in this film. There is a classic evil character, Lord Blackwood, who is killing off people for a master plan. In comes Sherlock Holmes to solve the case and that's just the beginning. I don't want to give it all up on this, so go see it, and enjoy it, and for those who have read a lot of the classic novels, you will see alot of little references and hints. It will be easy to see more movies from this and I hope they make them.

Movie Review - Avatar

OK, so this is James Cameron's big thing since Titanic, and I have to say I am very impressed. I read the script to Avatar back in about 2002ish, I think, when it was put on the net back in the early days of the interwebs. So I must say that only now could the computer and cgi effects needed for this film really do it justice and it did. I am very impressed. The story line is similar to John Smith and Pocahontas, the local peaceful natives and the aggressive higher civilization moving in to run the show. It's sad to say but even in the future I can see humans screwing over others for profit and getting ahead politically and otherwise for greed and selfish reasons. I'm not going to go into plot details, but this if definitely one of the best 3D digital films I have seen. Well worth the time and trip to see it.

Christmas Day

Well, it's the end of another Christmas Day. All the other people are asleep in their beds, I just got back from seeing Sherlock Holmes. I think we gave a good Christmas this year for the kids, and I hope the wife likes all she got. It was a tough year, not just for us, but many others out there in the world. Got me a new grill, to replace the old one that is falling apart and a rust bucket. The kids were so excited by what they got that they were confused as to what thing to play with. Got to see my folks, and hang out with the in-laws and all their gang, the secret santa swap last night was alot of fun. I am hoping that so far with next year, we will be a little bit ahead in the world and get to have some more vacations or the ability to just take the wife to more than a couple nice dinners.

I'm thankful that we were able to scrimp, save, and sell our way to provide a good wrap to the year. It was very stressful at times and straining to say the least. I gave the wife one last Christmas present tonight before writing this, I got in from the movie and cleaned the kitchen and breakfast room up. Will be nice for her to wake up and have one less thing to worry about. The Bud has given plenty to stress over, he has pretty much blown up the den with his toys and his room is a pig sty, will have to see about tackling some of that.

I have a busy day tomorrow, taking the in-laws to the airport in the morning, and then I have to get to Best Buy, the wife surprised me with a new radio for the car. It don't sound like much but it's the love that counts, and she had been saying I could get a new one for two years now. The factory one doesn't have a line in jack, so hooking my iPhone up to play tunes was out of the question, the new one has a line in jack. It's a nice stereo, not the super duper tv screen, gps, movie monster. But a nice straight forward one with lots of nice features.

Most of all, I'm really happy that we are all in relative good health and had a good time with everyone.

Christmas Eve

Looking forward to tonight, we get together with the wife's family and eat some homemade chili and do a secret Santa gift swap that is lot's of fun. Get to open some of the Christmas gifts early also. The kids are about to explode waiting for Santa to visit during the night. The Bud feels a bit left out so he decided to get a raging ear infection at the last minute to spice things up. Working on converting some of my movies for my iPhone, boy I love this thing. My buddy James got a Droid phone for himself and he says it's pretty nifty also. Oh well, have to run out to Walmart for some last minute stocking stuffers.

Hunting Trip - Rambo First Blood

Well we got back this evening, after spending four days at the lease hunting. It was a good time, I enjoy going out where my Verizon cell service don't work at all, cause Verizon sucks. As a benefit of that my work black berry does not work out their either cause they use Verizon. I scored my first buck, mainly cause after the invasion of the cows, he came along on the last night of hunting and met the criteria of being big and meaty, cause I was not going to leave there without meat to show for all this prep work of getting the lease up and going.

As you can see, we were well prepared with fluids to keep us hydrated.

Welcome to my Valley of Death...

Brandi, the camp mascot kept watch over the camp while we hunted.

Patience paid off and I was pretty happy, my first kill was a Buck, not impressive per say, but he will be making a lot of nice sausage and jerky and hamburger meat soon. I was pleased with my first shot, I put a shot right threw his neck at about 60 yards while he faced me straight on.

F*^%@$g Cows!!! They invaded the feeders, cause the guy who is supposed to tend to them has not been feeding them. At one point on Friday, I was ready to shoot the main bull in the head. I had the cross hairs on him and was mad as hell. The only thing that really stopped me from shooting wasn't the guidance of my father-in-law, but the prospect of having to dig a really, really big freaking hole to hide the remains.

I'm tired, and I got a much needed shower and washed all my cloths. Ready for my warm and cozy bed. I was a fun trip, I love going out to the lease. Good peoples, good food, good booze, good times. It's also a perk to hit up Buc-ees and get some grub going to and coming back from the lease.

Finally, Christmas vacation is here! Almost done with the wife's Christmas shopping, just have a few more items to get her next week. Heading out to the deer lease, looking forward to bagging some meat. At least I have the Sailor Jerry and Jack Daniels ready to go, all packed up and ready to go. Taking a couple small cans of sterno out with me, It's supposed to be freezing cold at night and early morning, so I will have some small way to heat up the deer blind for the morning hunts. Was overall a good day today, starting to feel the Christmas spirit in things finally this year. Turned off the evil black berry, and its nice not having to worry about that thing ringing or emails popping off for the next five days.

I'll have to get some more pictures of the upcoming adventure and put them up on Monday.
